Lihong Bai

Why do we assume that the human must remain at the center? What happens when we move beyond a human-centered view and question our impulse to dominate the world around us? May You Be Full of Desire and Fear, the first solo exhibition by 27-year-old artist Lihong BAI, who received her MA from the Royal College of Art two years ago. Bringing together works in a range of forms and media, the exhibition traces the artist’s artistic formation while following her ongoing interrogations of the world around her.

M+M Gallery is pleased to present “Every Good Boy Does Fine”, from June 27 to August 17, 2026, marking the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong for Buck Ellison and Kayode Ojo.

The exhibition explores what Bourdieu termed “habitus” — dispositions absorbed in childhood before conscious choice, reproducing social hierarchies by masquerading as instinct. This subtle internalization of systemic structures is precisely what the exhibition seeks to interrogate:

"How do you detect a two-way mirror? What are you going to do about it now?"

Join us to look beyond the surface.

The exhibition Infinitesimal Time, Monumental Matter: Scales of Existence takes the concepts of "matter" and "time" as its point of departure. Featuring nine artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, the exhibition unfolds across three distinct yet interconnected chapters, presenting a visual discourse on the essence of being. From the consumerist surface of material production to the reshaping of existence through repetitive labor and temporal homogeneity, the journey ultimately leads toward the possibility of nature as an alternative scale of existence. Through the dialectic between "infinitesimal time" (fragmented individual time) and "monumental matter" (material carriers imbued with meaning), the exhibition re-examines the values and boundaries of human existence.

M+M Gallery proudly presents its inaugural New Year Exhibition: Un Certain Regard: Alternative Visions of Postwar Asia. The exhibition title pays homage to the Un Certain Regard section of the Festival de Cannes—a parallel program established in 1978 to champion non-mainstream aesthetics and experimental styles. Borrowing this lens, the exhibition seeks to distill a unique perspective from the vast and fragmented coordinates of Asian art history since the 1950s, re-examining the artistic lives that struggled and flourished amidst the shifting tides of the Cold War and national transformations.

Alessandro Twombly

M+M Gallery is pleased to present Water Margin: Alessandro Twombly Solo Exhibition, marking the artist’s first solo presentation in Asia, featuring eight newly created works conceived specifically for Hong Kong and the region. The exhibition title, Water Margin, draws inspiration from Water Margin (Shui Hu Zhuan), one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels, which chronicles the legendary exploits of 108 outlaws of Liangshan who rise against injustice during the Song Dynasty. The “water margin” is the edge of water, the limit of order, and the birthplace of wild energy. Twombly’s canvases function as such a margin—where pigment escapes the bondage of representation, and brushstrokes become autonomous acts of life, guided by the principles of nature rather than human reason. “I don’t want to control the paint; I let it find its own place,” the artist explains.

M+M Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition Only If You Asked to See Me, opening on September 27. The exhibition features works by seven female artists, tracing a subtle transition from figurative to abstract visual languages. Through lines, color fields, and lyrical gestures, the artists guide viewers from recognizable imagery into spaces of abstract perception.

M+M Gallery is pleased to present our group show “A Touch and Yet Not a Touch”, opening on August 15. The exhibition explores, through a poetic lens, the subtle state of intimacy that exists between closeness and distance. J.D. Salinger once wrote in his book Nine Stories that “…love is a touch and yet not a touch”—like a hand extended into the winter sunlight, feeling its warmth at the fingertips, yet pausing before true contact is made. Intimacy is not solely a matter of physical proximity; it is also the delicate breath exchanged between hearts.

M+M Gallery is pleased to present In Quietness and Light, a group exhibition bringing together the work of seven contemporary artists whose practices traverse the thresholds between natural order, inner stillness, and surreal consciousness. On view from July 5 to August 12, 2025, the exhibition unfolds at our Hong Kong space. In Quietness and Light reflects a shared inquiry into the genre of landscape—long a subject of artistic investigation—through distinctly individual visual vocabularies and narrative strategies.

M+M Gallery is pleased to present The Tree Is Here, Still, in Pure Stone, a group exhibition that brings together three artists—Yuichi Inoue, Tommaso Spazzini Villa, and Thomas Hutton—each working across different cultural and historical contexts. Through materially driven practices, the exhibition explores how physical matter becomes a point of entry into deeper inquiries about human behavior, collective memory, and our evolving relationship with nature and history. From Inoue’s gestural inscriptions of spiritual intensity, to Spazzini Villa’s reanimation of cultural lineage through rare books, and Hutton’s architectural meditations on empire and time, the show traces distinct yet interconnected paths of mark-making across modern and contemporary art. It proposes culture as a living process—one of reciprocal interpretation and embodied translation.
